Preysal Gov’t cops Caroni title

Preysal Government Primary School has copped the Caroni District title in the Zonal Finals for the 2016 Atlantic National Primary Schools League, after they defeated Montrose Government by four wickets at Preysal.

Richie Ramdhan was on fine form with the ball, taking 2/12 as Montrose batting first tallied 80 for six of 25 overs. Montrose lost early wickets but Justin Jaggessar played a solid hand with an unbeaten 27.

Preysal then replied with 81 for six, with Nirad Seelal scoring 15 not out and David Kissoondath at the top of the order stroking 14. Jaggessar returned to capture 2/22 to add to his unbeaten 27 but it proved inadequate.

In the Girls Finals, Todds Road ran away with the honours after an emphatic victory over Phoenix Park Government. In a match reduced to 10 overs after rain made an intervention at the Inshan Ali Park, Phoenix Government batted first and made just 71 for three. Todds Road in reply romped to victory at 72 without loss. Player of the match, Amanda Manbodh showed she was a cut above the rest in the match by scoring 24, ushering her team into a triumphant victory.
